On 1 May 2006, HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein (JOR) was elected the 13th FEI President. She is the first Arab and the third woman in a row to occupy this position. HRH Princess Haya was elected on the basis of a Manifesto she presented to the General Assembly.
The FEI President is elected by the General Assembly for a maximum of two terms of four years each. The President is the ultimate head of the FEI.

The President

is responsible for ensuring that the purposes and principles of the FEI are observed and for the general supervision of its activities

represents the FEI and chairs the General Assembly and the Bureau

maintains close contact with the National Federations and with the various constituencies of the FEI in its relationship with other sports, the IOC and other organizations and individuals

nominates the Vice Presidents for election by the General Assembly and appoints the Secretary General with the approval of the Bureau
