The 9th African Games from 11 to 23 July 2007

All-Africa Games

The All-Africa Games (AAG) are a regional multi-sport event held every four years (one year before the Olympic Games). The competing nations to the AAG must all be from the African continent and be affiliated to the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa (SCSA). Furthermore, the athletes must meet the eligible criteria set by the International Federations to participate in the AAG.

The All-Africa Games contribute to the promotion of the Olympic spirit and stand as a major rendez-vous for African athletes. These Games are a milestone in the preparation of the Olympic Games as they are an opportunity for the continent’s athletes to express their potential.

The Games are organized by the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa (SCSA).

The Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), constituted among the National Olympic Committees of Africa (NOCs), abide by the fundamental principles of the Olympic Charter, in close cooperation with the African Sports Confederations and the SCSA.

The first Games were held in 1965 in Brazzaville (Congo). Officially recognized by the IOC from this first edition, the concept of the All-Africa Games has since been perpetuated. Over various editions and despite postponements and difficulties confronted by some host countries, the All-Africa Games today has become an Olympic gathering for the entire continent.

The next edition is to be held from 11 - 23 July in Algiers (Algeria), with 27 sports and 52 African countries participating.

For the first time, equestrian events (Jumping / Endurance) will be part of the 2007 programme.
