Our Mission

  • The primary mission of the FEI is to advance the orderly growth of equestrian sport world-wide by promoting, regulating and administering humane and sportsmanlike international competition in the traditional equestrian discipline and by helping them to evolve in ways that enhance their attractiveness both for the participants and the public, while respecting and furthering the ideals and principles of horsemanship.

Our  Values

  • Complicity with the animal
Equestrian sport transmits values that are common to any sports: courage, work, sacrifice, and discipline. But equestrian sport is the only one, which brings together two athletes, the horse and the rider, the success of which depends on the relationship of confidence and respect, which is built up between them.
  • Male and female riders share the same podium
Equestrian sport is one of the few in which men and women compete on equal terms up to and including Olympic level.
  • Of prime importance: the welfare of the horse
Since the FEI was formed, it has concerned itself with the welfare of the horse. In 1991, the FEI adopted a Code of Conduct, which starts as follows: in all equestrian sports, the welfare of the horse must be considered paramount (Code of conduct ).
  • A sport linked with nature
Being the only Olympic sport that involves an animal, and mainly performed in the countryside, equestrian sport is obviously linked to nature. The FEI is very much concerned with the conservation the environment and was one of the first international sports federation to establish a Code of Conduct toward Environment (Code of conduct towards the Environment ).
