Der Schatzgräber by Franz Schreker( )

15 editions published between 1989 and 2013 in German and Undetermined and held by 325 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Franz Schreker's operas were among the most played works of the Weimar Republic. And, in fact, Der Schatzgraber; was to become one of the most performed of all contemporary operas during the years of his time. The work was his most successful opera but also his last successful opera. Its later sudden loss of popularity coincides with the change in cultural climate of the year of 1924, a change which is documented in the fine arts by the transition from Expressionism to so called New Objectivity
Wozzeck by Alban Berg( )

16 editions published between 1999 and 2010 in 3 languages and held by 306 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

James Levine, a longtime champion of this groundbreaking work, has conducted every Met performance of Wozzeck since 1974. He brings Berg's revolutionary score to dramatic life in this broadcast, leading an extraordinary cast headed by Christian Boesch and Hildegard Behrens. Boesch gives a heartbreaking performance as the poor, abused soldier of the title, and Behrens is stunning as his faithless and conflicted wife, Marie. Richard Cassilly sings the vain Drum Major who seduces her, and Ragnar Ulfung and Franz Mazura are the Captain and the Doctor, who mock and torture Wozzeck

In the courtyard of the palace of Agamemnon, murdered king of Mycenae, Elektra bemoans her father's murder at the hands of her mother, Klytämnestra, and her mother's lover, Aegisth. She vows vengeance. She is interrupted by her younger sister, Chrysothemis, who urges Elektra to give up her obsession with revenge so they both can lead normal lives. Chrysothemis reappears with news that Orest is dead. Stunned, Elektra tells her sister she must now help kill Klytämnestra and Aegisth. When the girl pulls away in terror and runs off, Elektra starts to dig for the buried ax that killed Agamemnon. She is interrupted by a stranger who says he has come to inform Klytämnestra of Orest's death. When Elektra reveals her name, he tells her Orest lives. Servants come and kiss his hand. The dogs of the house know me, he says, but not my own sister. Crying his name, Elektra falls into Orest's arms and tells him she has lived only for his return. Their reunion is cut short when Orest is summoned before Klytämnestra. He kills both the queen and her lover. Elektra begins an ecstatic dance and when Chryothemis returns, Elektra falls dead
