David Greco and Erin Helyard present the first Australian recording of Schubert's masterpiece on period instruments Schubert's Winterreise is one of the greatest song cycles ever written. Recorded countless times before now, Erin Helyard and David Greco present a different Winterreise than any you have heard before. This is how the work might have sounded to Schubert, informed by scholarship around 19th century performance techniques, and the different vocal traditions and pianos that existed then

Winterreise : D 911 by
Franz Schubert(
)
376 editions published between 1943 and 2022 in 5 languages and held by 5,419 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Pavol Breslik writes of his new release: "From the very beginning, I had enormous respect for Die Winterreise, because it demands everything from the narrator. Whenever I open a page where I have set the notes aside and look at it again, I have new questions. And sometimes I don't find an answer to everything. This 'process' never stops." With his 3rd Lieder Album for Orfeo, Pavol Breslik sets foot on the 'Olympus' of German Lied Gesang with Schubert's Winterreise. His internationally acclaimed recording of Schubert's Die schöne Müllerin (C737151) foreshadows that he has something to tell us also about this genius and mystical masterwork. "We artists are always strongly influenced by the work we are just doing. We put our entire soul into it and do our very utmost to present it to the listener. Only whoever has really felt suffering, can sing about suffering. Here, it is a question of authenticity."

Symphony in B minor : (Unfinished) : an authoritative score, Schubert's sketches, commentary, essays in history and analysis by
Franz Schubert(
)
671 editions published between 1800 and 2018 in 8 languages and held by 3,782 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Schubert's Symphony in B minor, known as "Unfinished," has been one of the central works of the musical literature for over a century, since its discovery and first performance thirty-seven years after the composer's death. This volume includes the complete musical score of the work, and a stimulating selection of materials illuminating its historical and musical background.For this edition, the musical text that Johannes Brahms prepared for the Schubert Gesamtausgabe has been revised and corrected on the basis of a thorough comparison with Schubert's manuscript. The surviving piano sketches for the symphony, including the incomplete third movement, are for the first time presented in the same volume with the score; the orchestrated fragment of the third movement is also reprinted. The complex history of the symphony and the riddle of its incompleteness are traced in essays referring to original source material, while the editor's detailed analysis and his selection of views and comments (ranging from a review of the first performance up to the present) acquaint the reader with the views of such figures as Wolf, Dvor̆ák, Stravinsky, and Copland. A selective bibliography is also provided. -- from dust jacket

Der Tod und das Mädchen by
Franz Schubert(
)
144 editions published between 1895 and 2018 in 8 languages and held by 2,622 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
