Beatrice Terry(
)
in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The Beatrice Terry papers consist primarily of letters received or collected by the actress during her long career as an actress in England and the United States. It also includes clippings, programs, and other items relating to Terry's work, as well as her famous family. Correspondents include such well known authors and performers as: Anstey Guthrie, J.M. Barrie, Dion Boucicault, Frances Hodgson Burnett, Martin Flavin, Tom Gallon, Walter Hampden, Helen Hayes, Eva Le Gallienne, C. Aubrey Smith, and Dame Ellen Terry. Also included is a 1928 letter signed "Ted," most likely from Terry's cousin, Edward Gordon Craig, and a 1910 thank you note (on mourning stationery) from Queen Alexandra for the expressions of sympathy she had received over the death of King Edward VII. A second, smaller group of items date from the 1950s, and mainly are connected with Terry's efforts to assist a "Miss Dillingham" in gaining admittance to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, but also contains a 1958 letter to Terry's husband, Geoffrey Marks, in which he expresses concern over Terry's apparent illness. Also included is an undated photograph of Terry's cousin, the actor Edmund Gwenn, Terry, and a man identified on the back of the image as "Jock Brand" seated at a nightclub banquette
