Die Schöpfung by
Joseph Haydn(
)
24 editions published between 1980 and 2012 in German and Undetermined and held by 374 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"This marvellous recording, sung in German, comes as a surprise, since Bernard Haitink is not obviously associated with Haydn. In fact he didn't tackle The Creation until 2011, when he was 82. He approaches this great choral masterpiece with wit, unhurried grandeur, riveting orchestral detail and forward momentum - in short, with just the acuity he brings to anything he conducts. (....) Gabriel (soprano Camilla Tilling), Uriel (tenor Mark Padmore), and Raphael (bass Hanno Müller-Brachmann). Choir, orchestra and soloists are on sparkling form in this live recording - an invigorating reminder, if any were needed, of Haydn's genius" (The Guardian)

Stabat Mater by
Joseph Haydn(
)
10 editions published between 1979 and 2009 in Latin and German and held by 301 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"Joseph Haydn's Stabat Mater, written in 1767, was the first church work the composer wrote after entering the service of Prince Esterházy in Eisenstadt. Unlike almost all his other sacred works, it soon circulated in numerous copies and established Haydn's reputation as the leading vocal composer of his day. This recording under the direction of Frieder Bernius - joined by a distinguished line-up of soloists, the Kammerchor Stuttgart and the Hofkapelle Stuttgart - follows the new critical edition of the work by Carus. The Kammerchor Stuttgart ranks as one of the best ensembles of its kind. In its 50 years of existence, Frieder Bernius has formed the choir to an exceptional phenomenon that has been acclaimed by both audiences and the press. The choir's repertoire ranges from the 17th to the 21st century, and the ensemble is regularly invited to all the important European festivals and performs in the most prestigious concert halls. The ensemble is led by Frieder Bernius."--condensed from promotional copy by Libraries Australia
