Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg : Oper in drei Aufzügen = opera in three acts by
Richard Wagner(
Visual
)
4 editions published between 2004 and 2013 in German and held by 100 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"The Mastersingers of Nuremberg is Richard Wagner's most ceremonious opera. It is considered the most festive opera per se ... The Mastersingers is Wagner's only opera in which all figures represent ordinary people without any supernatural skills or fates ... The underlying thematic principle here as in many of Wagner's other operas is a conflict. Stolzing, the 'free' artist, is in opposition to the mastersingers and their 'traditional' art. The political spirit of the times, the great debate between conservatives and progressionists, is poignantly reflected here ... Quite unique amongst all of the operas of Richard Wagner."--Guide
