"Dem lieben Gott" widmete Anton Bruckner seine 9. Sinfonie. Drei Sätze konnte er vollenden, vor Vollendung des 4. Satzes starb er (1896). Die 9. Sinfonie wurde somit zum Vermächtnis Bruckners und bietet, wegen der Kühnheit ihrer Harmonien, auch einen Ausblick ins 20. Jahrhundert. Das Chicago Symphony Orchestra führte diese Sinfonie 1904 erstmals in Amerika auf. Über 100 Jahre später hat das Chicago Symphony Orchestra dieses Werk unter Riccardo Muti eingespielt - beide bestätigen damit ihren Ruf als großartige Bruckner-Interpreten
