Requiem by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart( )

2 editions published in 2001 in Latin and held by 277 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

December 1791, the final Requiem: Tired by his many voyages around Europe ever since he had been rejected in Vienna, Mozart could not find the strength to honour his promise to compose a Requiem in record time for the person who had commissioned it. He was in fact to be struck down by illness during its composition and it was his pupil Süssmayr who finished the work according to his instructions. This version remains the most convincing, for the presence and grandeur of Mozart are present everywhere - in the baroque imagination and the classical style, in the universal unrest and the sheer terror of a man alone in the face of Death

9 editions published between 1989 and 1994 in 3 languages and held by 262 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

With James Levine's masterful conducting, Mozart's sublime score works its colorful magic in this upstairs/downstairs drama. Ruggero Raimondi (Figaro) and Kathleen Battle (Susannah) are the servants, caught up in the ongoing domestic drama of the Count and Countess (Thomas Allen and Carol Vaness). Only all is not what it seems, and the battle lines keep shifting in the most unexpected ways. Frederica von Stade is Cherubino, the young page body who's in love with love and who keeps complicating everyone's best laid plans at exactly the wrong times
