Dem Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks liegt diese Spätromantik sehr. Er singt auch die 16-stimmigen Lieder sehr durchsichtig und klangschön und lässt sich nicht zu Überemotionalität hinreißen. Er könnte aber mit etwas mehr Biss herangehen und mehr vom Text her kommen. Der Chor arbeitet vor allem die Melodieführungen heraus, die sich kunstvoll verzahnen. Dabei klingt er sehr ausgeglichen zwischen den Stimmgruppen und zeigt eine große dynamische Bandbreite

Brian Ferneyhouh est l'une des personnalités les plus importantes et les plus fascinantes de la musique actuelle ; c'est aussi l'une des plus difficiles à cerner. Ses œuvres, qui furent révélées vers la fin des années soixante, ne renoncent ni à une expressivité que l'on pourrait presque qualifier de romantique, ni à la complexité d'une élaboration rigoureuse. Elles se situent au-delà des problématiques des années cinquante et soixante, que Ferneyhough a su parfaitement intégrer, tout en s'opposant radicalement aux tendances restauratrices des années soixante-dix. Dans ce volume, Brian Ferneyhough retrace sa propre évolution, commentant chacune de ses œuvres, et s'explique sur leur signification profonde, notamment sur leurs déterminations et leurs implications extra-musicales ; il parle de sa manière de travailler, de la fonction de sa notation, du rôle des interprètes... et il analyse deux de ses œuvres. Différents auteurs posent sur sa musique un regard critique, musicographique, philosophique, ou analytique. Brian Ferneyhough est né à Coventry en 1943. Il y a fait ses études de musique, puis a suivi les cours de composition de Lennox Berkeley à Londres (1964-1967), Ton de Leeuw à Amsterdam (1 968-1 969) et Klaus Huber à Baie (1969). Il a enseigné la composition à Freiburg-im-Breisgau de 1 973 à 1986, ainsi qu'à Darmstadt (cours d'été depuis 1976) et Milan (depuis 1984) ; il a fait de nombreuses lectures, notamment à Helsinki, Glasgow, Arezzo et Dartington. Il travaille aujourd'hui à San Diego en Californie. Parmi ses oeuvres les plus importantes, on compte trois Quatuors à cordes, Transit, le cycle des Carceri d'invenzione, la pièce d'orchestre La Terre est un Homme, et la série des Time and Motion Studies
