2 editions published between 1985 and 1992 in German and English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Documentary about a Tanztheater (dance theater) work titled Sylvia Plath, inspired by the final three days of American poet Sylvia Plath, who committed suicide in 1963. The program begins with a brief introduction about the performers, the dance company of the municipal theater in Heidelberg, and Johann Kresnik's work there. In discussing the production, the narration relates events in Plath's life and explores the cultural resonance she has acquired. Kresnik, an Austrian-born choreographer and stage director whose concept of Tanztheater preceded the work of Pina Bausch and Reinhild Hoffmann, talks about his choreographic approach and his reflections on Plath. Scenes from the production depict the theatrical realization of his ideas. Kresnik describes his notion of "choreographic theater," which uses dancers rather than actors to enable a more multifaceted performance. The narration also defines salient characteristics of the Tanztheater form
