Der Zigeunerprimas " : Operetta in three acts by
Emmerich Kálmán(
)
9 editions published in 2005 in German and Undetermined and held by 316 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Early on, having had little success as a composer of 'straight' music, Kálmán mentioned to a friend: "If it goes on like this, I shall write an operetta!" And we should all be glad he did. Kálmán and Lehár kept the theatregoers of Vienna and the rest of Europe and America tapping their toes. If you like your Wiener Waltzer liberally seasoned with Hungarian Csárdá, you'll love this recording. Lots of showstoppers, sparkling tunes and glorious orchestrations all laced together with a passionate gypsy plot about a real Zigeunerprima, Pali Rácz, who the composer had known. The cast is excellent, the voices of the principles displaying just the right amount of that eastern European 'edginess' one would expect. Claus Peter Flor leads the brilliant Münchner Rundfunkorchester and the huge cast with flair and perhaps just a bit of a mischievous twinkle in his eye. Prosit! - Amazon review

Translucence, transparency, warmth' are the qualities identified by Bernard Haitink as necessary for an ideal sound performance of Beethoven's only opera, and all are present in this fantastic recording of Katharina Thalbach's 2008 production for Opernhaus Zurich. Haitink conducts the Zurich Opera Orchestra in a magnificent performance in which Leonore Overture No. 3 provides an interlude between the two scenes of the second act, following a tradition started by Gustav Mahler. German soprano Melanie Diener, in the role of Leonore, leads a brilliant cast including Alfred Muff as Rocco, Roberto Saccà as Florestan, Sandra Trattnigg as Marzelline and Christoph Strehl as Jaquino

Lucio Silla documentary : Salzburg Festival 2006 : an hour with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, 1756-1791(
Visual
)
1 edition published in 2008 in German and held by 68 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
In 2006, the Mozart22 project took place in honor of the 250th anniversary of the composer's birth. It was a major project to recreate the twenty-two operas and oratorios composed by Mozart. This documentary goes behind the scenes of the production of Ascanio in Alba at that time. The Salzburg Festival of 2006 gathered the best specialists of the Mozart repertoire - singers, conductors and directors - to interpret this unique selection of works. "I see it as a kind of political thriller, the story of a plot against an inhuman regime. ... Lucio Silla is, in my opinion, one of the few truly political pieces by Mozart."
