Carmina Burana : cantiones profanae, cantoribus et choris cantandae, comitantibus instrumentis atque imaginibus magicis by
Carl Orff(
)
28 editions published between 1937 and 1981 in 5 languages and held by 585 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Music for lute by
Walter Gerwig(
)
3 editions published in 2014 in German and held by 539 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"The beautiful and contemplative sounds of the lute are heard in this 4 CD set celebrating the masterful musicianship of Walter Gerwig (1899- 966). Gerwig was a leading pioneer of early music in post-war Germany. Unlike some musicians who lived through the war years, Gerwig refused to join the Nazi party. After the war, Gerwig, through recitals and recordings developed a reputation in Europe akin to Julian Bream in the England. This box set brings together for the first time on CD, Gerwig's recorded legacy on the Archiv label and features solo lute music by Italian, French and German masters from the 16th through 18th centuries. The set also includes the first recording ever made (1949) of Bach's G Minor Lute Suite. Historic mono recordings featuring solo instruments or small ensembles are prized by audiophiles. The intimate sound quality can become, as the music takes hold, practically indistinguishable from modern recordings"--ArkivMusic website (viewed May 1, 2014)
