DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITY REPORT 2007 16/11/2007
1. FEI DEVELOPMENT ADVISORY GROUP met twice – in January and July 2007 – to evaluate the previous season; define the 2007 objectives; evaluate Level 2 coaches; identify regional Tutors.

2. THE FEI COACH EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION SYSTEM is making a positive difference within the sport. Twenty-one regional courses were held in 2007 educating 217 Level 1 coaches from 40 countries and 44 Level 2 coaches from six nations. The first regional tutors were educated in Peru and will begin conducting FEI coaches courses in South/Central America from 2008. Four Officials from South Africa and one Course Designer from New Zealand received an FEI grant to come to Europe to gain experience at shows.

3. TRAINING COURSES FOR RIDERS (CLINICS) were conducted in Antigua, Jamaica, Haiti and Trinidad.

4. EVENTING DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME - EASTERN EUROPE. The discipline is becoming more and more popular in Russia with a growing participation at shows (CCI Moscow 140 starters). For the first time in 17 years, the country succeeded in sending a senior team of six riders to the 2007 FEI European Eventing Championship. Four Russian riders have now qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games. Both juniors and young riders competed at the European Championships held during the summer. Belarus was awarded an Eventing FEI World Cup™ Qualifier in June 2007. Slovakia joined the programme while Estonia is in its second year and is developing well. FEI courses for coaches with Eventing modules were held in Russia (3), Belarus (1) and Estonia (1).

5. EVENTING DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME – SOUTH/CENTRAL AMERICA. 2007 activities focused on the Pan American Games with among others, the participation of Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay. Brazil which was part of the Development Programme till last year has qualified a team to take part in the 2008 Olympic Games. In Central America, One to Three star events were organised in Mexico and Guatemala. A Development course for Officials was organised in Uruguay, as well as a Level 2 course with Eventing module took place in Uruguay out of which a Regional Tutor was identified and trained.

6. EVENTING DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME – GROUP IX. Based on the same principles of the existing Eventing Development programmes, a third programme has been initiated in South Africa, with the objective to expend to other NFs in the region.

7. VAULTING DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME – GROUP IX. A Development Officer for the discipline of Vaulting in the region was appointed. South Africa, Malawi and Swaziland are developing fast and the second edition of the FEI Vaulting Africa Cup was held this year in South Africa.

8. PARA EQUESTRIAN. Further to an application to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, a grant was attributed to the FEI to conduct special training for Para Equestrian riders and their coaches in the Czech Republic, Croatia and Slovakia.

9. FEI DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY. An update on the FEI Development Strategy was presented and a system for the use and wise management of the funds raised by the FEI President as per her Manifesto – in the range of CHF 2 million – was proposed.

10. A BRAND for FEI’s development activities was approved.
